Teams to look out for in 2012
So, with the 2011 Formula One season done and dusted, we can start looking who should be doing well in 2012.
The team I will be supporting for 2012 will be Williams. Things are looking good for the team from the UK. Next season will have them racing with Renault power since 1997, the year they last won the drivers and constructors’ championship.
Williams is well known for their great chassis designs. The only obstacle they have faced since 1997 was a lack of a powerful engine and solid drivers. Yes, I know you will say that they had Ralf Schumacher and Montoya but they were never going to beat Michael Schumacher at his best with Ferrari. Since then they have never had a driver capable of winning anything.
The team had to do with second-hand engines from Cosworth and Toyota.
The only thing they need now is a great driver who can challenge for the title.
The other team I have high hopes for is Mercedes. Everything is just pointing towards the fact that they will be the team to beat in 2012. The reason being, they stopped developing the 2011 car earlier than the others.
Honda did the same thing in 2008. They developed the 2009 car by May 2008 and thus had a blistering car in 2009, under the name of Brawn GP which won both titles.
The problem, with Red Bull and McLaren is that they had to battle until the last round of the season so they won’t have the same amount of preparation for next season.
They also have Michael Schumacher, who showed at the end of this season that he has lost none of the pace and technical knowledge that made him champion seven times.
Lastly, I would love to see Ferrari at the front of the grid. They have all the right ingredients. They have a very good driver in the form of Fernando Alonso and all the financial backing to the job.
We will have to wait for next season to see.
