I’m now sure that the wonderful gals n’ guys at the G7 will have no influence whatsoever on the nature of this recessive beast.  I have watched with growing concern at the false dawn commentary of the first quarter of 2011 as pundits swore blind that the recession was over.

Now somehow the G7 was going to fix the world.  Abracadabra.  Nyet.

Were we all born yesterday?

Based on a massive bout of self-indulgence and introspective uselessness,  share-trading putrid pundits of paucity somehow dreamed up a scenario that China, by taking over lower middle class jobs from the rest of the world,  was somehow going to bail out the entire globe based on its supposed veracity as a commercial enterprise.  And this belief has a confluence in emerging economies delusion led by BRICS which somehow was going to salvage world trade ?

Well well well.   Talk about confusing economics with politics.

In Europe, the confusion is worse.  Germany is going to boot Greece right out into the Aegean.  The irony is next-door enemy,  sorry, neighbour, Turkey,  is actually far more valuable to the EU as a member than the Greeks.  The folks from Athens are running a small store in comparison to the growing manufacturing giant that is Ankara.    Another bout of politics trumping economics.

In the US the leadership is frozen, awaiting November 2012.

Bad news.

In SA,  leadership is frozen.  Awaiting nothing.  Just frozen.

Its a time for guts and action,  but world-wide,  gutless inaction and self-deception and extreme short term trading methods based in algorithms and hedging is now the end game of a delapidated world that long ago shed any vestige of true value in exchange for a finance economy that based all its eggs in one speculative basket.   China is part of the threat, not the opportunity.   Along with their friends in every CDC-swapping entity and forex and equity trader who is desperate for a quick fix and unable to understand just what endurance is now required emotionally and intellectually to survive the next decade.

And some other folks are watching the blood on the street and licking their lips.

Have we become automatons merely placed on earth to pay tax to bolster an increasingly large government – at a time of recession?

This is a global question.

Someone asked me recently what the chances of another world revolution based on a call to action and the overthrow of large governments across the globe – and the answer is before us.   We are beginning the formative phase of such a time.

While American politics has been given a backhand by Tea Party, there are ominous signs for elites.

SA included.

In the UK MP’s laude it over the poor,  hanging out in their plush green house of fun, buying thousands of pounds of potplants.

Then Tottenham popped.

In SA ministers are paraded around highways by blinking blue lights,  while the poor stare out of a musty taxi window as the minor gods of the struggle jet past.  And unemployment rises…

In Europe, German and French banks are about to pay for bailing out their friends in Greece, and bolstering others in Spain.  Then the same leaders tell their inner-cities that cutting health support costs is a  necessary evil while Italian right-wing popularists blame Libyans and the EU – and continue corrupt and nepotistic practices as a matter of course.

The euro is doomed, yet no-one wants to admit it.  Europe is flat broke, and the problem states are now a storm anchor dragging on the big ship Germany.

The constant use of Blackberry, SMS, Facebook,  to pass on messages calling like-minded actionistas to move is now posing a quandry for western governments.  China et al decided long ago that there was too much freedom to allow unfettered communication but that’s not going to save the Communist party in the long run.

But elsewhere, will it be so easy to stop the new communication?

Then there is tax.  And in SA we are quite literally paying too much.   Now we shall pay a toll of 40c to travel a few kilometers along Gauteng roads.  After paying tax of 20% of the fuel price to cover supposedly, road maintenance. So where is the cash generated by this double tax?

Answer: Government is now the biggest employer, in a time of recession and .. growing.

Getting the picture.

In the short term it can boast about targeting “transformation”, but in the next year explaining why a mayor has a big black BMW or Range Rover is going to become really difficult – even while flashing the ruling party ace whenever folks point out that the majority of fatcats remain un-transformed.

A murmur begins – soon a flood as taxpayers across the world wake up to the real sleight of hand.   Oversize governments which are not about the people and are in truth, the real enemy within.

Brics meeting.  Brazil, Russia, India, China.  And little ‘ol us.  South Africa.

The Africans have joined the Mestizos and Quechua and the Orientals and the east Europeans and the billion Asians.    But only 48 million Africans are really involved here.   Zuma will have trouble selling his position as valuable to the continent to the Nigerians, for example.

A faint whiff of weird modern race politics permeates the room.    The only non-colonial nation there is Russia.  Germany failed to colonize it in the ’40′s.   China was colonized recently by the Japanese.   And a part of China called Hong Kong was handed back by the Brits in 1999 – who colonized India for 300 years.

India/China hold bilateral meet on 13th April before formal BRICS kicks off on 14th April

Brazil is far bigger and more powerful than its colonizer,  Portugal and if the Portuguese would like – Brazil could bail them out of trouble by colonizing the colonizer.

South Africa was colonized too.   But is now a free country.  So we join quite a list of those who cast off the yoke of the past and are sashaying into the grand future of BRICs.

Or are we?    What fantastic export market in Brazil and China and India will open up for us?  Or Russia?  None.  Each of these entities except SA has a number of natural motivators to get involved in BRICs from a situation of strength.   Ours is purely based on a hand-out.  A little political AID handed out to the Africans.

So we get a previously disadvantaged colonized African voice heard above the Realpolitik din.  But when the BRICs is all about the money – one has to wonder whether or not South Africa’s position is really like the token fronting of BEE companies.

Technology and protests,  and the right to grimly defend subsidies for the Middle Class Brit.

That’s the topic of todays blog.

While Gaddafi used everything except nerve gas to try and kill off protestors,  in the UK 250 000  marched on Saturday against government spending cuts and 149 were arrested for random acts of mob-style violence.  The only tank that got it was a nearby water tank.   The only fighter jet was a toughie’s urine on a bank staircase.

Government oppression turned out to be a couple of blows on the noggin with a tax-payer sponsored centrally controlled unionised subsidised baton.  Better than being sprayed with nerve gas or shot up with a South African sniper rifle in Bangazi, eh?

Remember the purple dye firing canon used by the Apartheid government?    So that after the students staggered home,  the gestapo could go door to door arresting students who found it difficult to remove the long-lasting dye.    Perhaps the UK conservative government may consider such technology now that PM Cameron has decided to actually trim the cost to the nanny state of a few thousand of the great unwashed.

Ooops.  Shouldn’t have said that.

Now 149 Trustafarians will rock up outside this premises and spray paint naughty slogans on our double-glazed security staff or those witless wonders on blog-face-twit-space will spew their normal frustrated and poorly thought out vitriol into the digital soup.

Take a look at a few pragmatic realities.   In 2000 the UK government spending amounted to around 30% of GDP. In 2010 that rose to 47%.  Increasing at that pace,  within a few years the Brits would replicate the German government spending patterns under Hitler during the second World War.

Centrally funded disaster as everyone wears sack cloth with a number.   Like a bag of mielie meal embossed with a barcode and bleating like sheep.  Baaaahhh baaaahhh.  Tax me now … baaaah baaaaah.  The protestors may as well be shouting “I have every right to demand a massive government to oppress me and frustrate my freedoms, don’t touch the subsidies,  I’m middle Class you know…”

The angry mob fails to notice a large irony.  For it demands upping government expenditure.    Fine, says the state.   Let me use some of the 47% of GDP value to purchase a couple of riot police to thwack you on the noggin.  And build a network of Orwellian CCTV monitors which I can use to arrest you 149 thugs.

Ironic perhaps that as the unions and students defend their right to be subsidised by the nanny state,  the nannies have turned to their state-sponsored monitoring devices in order to arrest the students and marchers.     Oppressive technology,  the state, and the mob actually in perfect harmony.

Matron would be pleased as she prepares the medicine – bend down young activist.  I have a gauge 18 needle ….
